GentleCure

A non-surgical treatment for nonmelanoma skin cancer

Cedar Valley Skin Cancer Center is introducing an innovative treatment for skin cancer to the community members of Grundy County and beyond. Image-Guided Superficial Radiotherapy (SRT), also known as GentleCure, is a non-surgical treatment option for people who have been diagnosed with non-melanoma skin cancer.

Treatments using Image-Guided Superficial Radiotherapy make use of high-resolution ultrasound imaging to first determine the depth of the cancer to be treated. X-rays are then used to cause damage and ultimately, death of cancer cells, allowing healthy tissue to grow back in its place. The treatments are administered 3x per week for up to seven weeks to achieve desired results. The treatments are a painless, non-surgical option that does not impact daily life or activities of those who receive the superficial radiotherapy, as it penetrates just a few millimeters into the skin, leaving deeper tissue unaffected. Ultrasound images measure the progress of the treatments.

How to receive care with the GentleCure treatment

If you have been diagnosed with skin cancer that is not melanoma (basal cell or squamous cell) you may speak to your primary care provider or contact the Cedar Valley Skin Cancer Center for information on treatment and appointment scheduling. If you have a spot or suspicious mole that needs to be evaluated, you may make an appointment for a visit with the Skin Cancer Clinic at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital Specialty Clinic.  Appointments with Karen Sadler ARNP are available each Monday.
