GCMH Named Top Workplace and Employer of Choice

Grundy County Memorial Hospital (GCMH) has earned recognition as one of the Des Moines Register’s Top Iowa Workplaces and the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier’s Employers of Choice for 2023. These awards are based on feedback from GCMH associates through nominations and anonymous surveys.

“It is an absolute honor to be recognized for both of these achievements,” says GCMH Administrator, Adam Scherling, MHA. “Our associates and the culture we have built here at GCMH translate into the high-quality care our patients have come to know and trust.”

The Des Moines Register’s award is based entirely on the scores of an anonymous employee feedback survey administered by Energage, a firm specializing in organizational health and workplace improvement. GCMH associates took the survey in the spring and responses were measured in the categories of connection, effectiveness and leadership. GCMH ranked 7th out of 55 mid-sized workplaces who were honored in Iowa. This is the same survey that resulted in GCMH being named a National Top Workplace for the Healthcare Industry earlier this summer. The Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier’s award was granted based on nominations sent in by associates. GCMH was one of only 14 businesses in the Cedar Valley to achieve the recognition.

GCMH has earned the Top Iowa Workplace award each year since 2015 and has earned the Employer of Choice award 8 times. GCMH is a critical access hospital with 170 employees, and is affiliated with UnityPoint Health – Waterloo and the UnityPoint Health system. The hospital serves Grundy, Butler, Hardin and Tama counties with emergency, outpatient and acute care services.
