As Grundy County Memorial Hospital has grown to serve today's healthcare needs, its leadership team has dedicated itself to insuring that excellence is the standard. GCMH staff members truly care about patients, who can sense the personal touch that is the foundation of hospital culture. Quality measures and patient experience scores are ranked in the top 5% of hospitals nationwide, and GCMH has been ranked among the nation's Top 20 Most Recommended rural hospitals and is a 2022 and 2023 Top 100 Critical Access Hospital.
The management team combines a variety of backgrounds and areas of expertise to provide GCMH with vision, energy, and leadership.
Adam Scherling, Administrator
Adam Scherling has served as the GCMH leader since 2018. Previously he was Director of Operations, Specialty Services, for UnityPoint Clinic, Waterloo, and has also served in a variety of leadership roles for UnityPoint Health – Allen Hospital, including the role of liaison to rural affiliate hospitals. He is a graduate of the University of Iowa, where he earned a Bachelor's degree in Health Science and a Master's degree in Health Administration. He is a member of Kiwanis, Lions Club, and serves Grundy Center Chamber-Main Street as an Ambassador. Adam was named to a distinguished 2021 class of Cedar Valley leaders as a recipient of the Twenty Under Forty award.
Lisa Zinkula, Controller
Lisa's experience in rural hospital financial administration is key to the solid financial position of GCMH. Lisa had six years of experience in accounting administration at UnityPoint - Allen Hospital before joining GCMH in 2003. She is a native of Grundy Center, has served in a variety of community leadership roles, and is a past recipient of the Twenty Under Forty leadership recognition from the Waterloo/Cedar Falls Courier.
Ryan Bingman, Manager, Facility Operations
Ryan was instrumental in managing the capital improvement projects that provided GCMH with new Inpatient, Emergency, Physical Therapy, and Surgery areas in 2010, and a renovated second floor and expanded Outpatient service areas in 2016-2017. Ryan was formerly in facilities management with Monmouth College, Monmouth, IL, and is a graduate of Iowa State University. He was named one of the Cedar Valley's distinguished young leaders as recipient of the Twenty Under Forty award. He is actively involved with local development efforts and is a member of Kiwanis.
Jody Schipper, MSN, RN,
Director of Clinical Services
Jody has been with GCMH since 2012, and with UnityPoint Health since 2006. As head of Clinical Informatics and Staff Development, she led the successful implementation of an electronic medical record at GCMH. Jody was named Director of Nursing Services in 2016, and Director of Clinical Services in 2019. She is a native of Grundy County, a graduate of Allen College and member of the Iowa Organization of Nurse Leaders. Her role at GCMH includes management of all nursing services, performance improvement, and staff education. Jody is a member of the 2020 class of Iowa's Top 100 Nurses.
Dr. Eric Neverman,
Chief Medical Officer
Dr. Neverman practices pediatrics and internal medicine with UnityPoint Clinic - Grundy Center Family Medicine. He is a native of Jesup, a graduate of the University of Iowa, and graduated from medical school at Des Moines University. He served his residency at the University of Missouri Hospitals and Clinics in Columbia, Missouri. He is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and the American Board of Pediatrics. He is a graduate of the UnityPoint Health Physician Leadership Academy.
